2021 Challenge Rules

Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2021 Challenge Rules

The CQJP is about promoting the art of crazy quilting and expanding the participant’s individual artistic creativity and technical knowledge. So, the rules are simple: Early Registration will start on November 1,2020 and end December 31, 2020. This will give us time to get all of the links to Participants blogs and any other information posted before the start of 2021. Late Registration will start on January 1,2021 and run for the entire year. Project Planning and Block Construction can begin before January 2021; but NOT earlier than September 2020 to be considered a valid CQJP 2021 Project. (To clarify this rule: It IS okay to have pieced blocks ready, having been sewn at ANY time in the past, that have NOT YET been embellished. The embellishment work will take place after Sep 2020, so fits the intent of this rule. It is NOT okay to take photos of embellished blocks that were completed BEFORE September 2020, and then submit that as your challenge for 2021.) We are also allowing this year for you to finish up some of your Crazy Quilt Journal Projects. If you have participated in previous years and haven’t finished the project and would like to, you can use that as your project for this year. Also if you would like to create several small projects instead one large project you can as well such as a 4 block wall hanging, stockings, Christmas ornaments, tote bags, needlebook covers, etc. Construct and complete a crazy quilt block each month (January through December) in 2021 that measures at least 8 inches square. {Note: this is a change from the 6-inch size of prior years} It has been noted that although the prior 6-inch guideline was just a MINIMUM standard; MOST participants actually have made it their choice for a block size. So, we are nudging you into creating larger final projects by increasing the block size. Also, blocks do not HAVE to be square shapes. Hexagons, pentagons, circles, etc. are acceptable shapes for this challenge. NOTE: If you need ideas for piecing blocks of various shapes…Janet Stauffacher has some wonderful and free downloadable patterns (with silkie images already included) posted on her Vintage Vogue Pinterest Page with links to the blocks for downloading. Blocks can include any type of fabric(s) and as many different fabrics as you desire. Blocks can include any form of embellishment you desire. Blocks should challenge your individual skills. Work to expand your artistic views and improve your technical skills. Please do not downsize your photos before sending. It is not necessary as we have plenty of space for them. We may crop some of the “extra” parts of the photo out that surround your block before posting. All participants are encouraged to comment on others photos. We all need encouragement! All comments are moderated and will not post immediately; this is due to spammers that submit bogus comments so that they can push a personal issue. All photos will be reviewed and possibly cropped or resized before posting.
